ESL Wordle is a fun warmer or cooler to play in class. In this game based on the popular game Wordle, students have to guess a five letter word in six guesses. If a letter is black it is not in the word. If it is yellow it is in the word but in the wrong position and finally green means it is in the correct place.
There are many ways to play this game in class but putting students in two teams can be an effective way. The teams try and guess the word before the other team. How Can Wordle Be Used in the Classroom?
- Use it as a warm-up either with a random word or a word from the day’s lesson.
- Post a Wordle each day with a new vocabulary word for students. Once they’ve solved the Wordle, have them look up the definition and then try to use it in the rest of the class.
- Have students battle in teams to solve the word first.
