ESL Bomb is a simple way to bring a little fun and excitement when revising material or playing games with your students. ESL Bomb can be used with quizzes, while revising, correcting homework and so on. If students get an answer correct they can choose one of the squares. If they get a number they collect that amount of points however, if they get a 'bomb' they lose all of their points.
1. Project the interactive game on the board.
2. When students or their teams answer a question they may select one of the 9 squares. If a student/team selects a square with points they collect those points. If they select a square with a bomb they lose all their points.
3. The team with the most points at the end of the game are the winners.
This game is based on the popular quiz show family fortunes or family fued in the states. You can play this game in the same format as the show or you can play like I do.
When I play, I put students into pairs or small groups. I show them the question and then get them to brainstorm 2 - 3 answers which they think will appear on the board.
Then, I write the words the students have chosen before I reveal the answers. You can get students to spell the words for extra practice. This method is a little less time consuming as the original format plus it ensures that all students are participating in the activity.
